Saint Mary, Jamaica, 14 November 2019. The Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica, H.E. Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández, visited the parish of Saint Mary, located in the northeast section of the country.
In the headquarters of the Port Maria City Hall, the Cuban diplomat was received by Mr. Richard Creary, Mayor of the parish, Ms. Ethlyn Douglas, Executive Director, Mr. Larry Robertson, Regional Coordinator of the Parish Development Committees for St. Mary, St Thomas and Portland; as well as other local government officials.
Saint Mary, Jamaica, 14 November 2019. The Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica, H.E. Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández, visited several sites of historical interest as part of her trip to the parish of Saint Mary.
The tour included a visit to the monument erected to “Tacky”, a slave leader who led one of the most significant rebellions against Colonialism in the Caribbean region in the 18th century. The Cuban diplomat paid solemn tribute to the African-Jamaican hero and laid a wreath on his monument.
Saint Mary, Jamaica, 14 November 2019. As part of the program of activities developed in the parish of Saint Mary, the Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica, H.E. Mrs. Inés Fors Fernández, met with Fredrick Young, President of the Chamber of Commerce of that town; as well as with leaders of the Parish Development Committee and other representatives of the business community.
Young referred to the historical links between Cuba and Jamaica and highlighted the results of the bilateral co-operation received by the latter in sectors like health and education.
