Jamaican unionist Keith Comrie ratifies solidarity with Cuba on May 1.

Kingston, Jamaica, 1 May 2020. As four decades ago, unionist Keith Comrie accompanied Cuba in May 1 parades and today, from his home in Jamaica, ratifies solidarity with the people of the largest island in the Antilles.

An executive member of the Jamaica Confederation of Trade Unions, Comrie regards Cuba as his second home for, in his opinion, love and affection have never been lacking since his first visit in 1980.

Former Prime Minister of Jamaica praises Cuba´s international assistance in the fight against COVID-19

Former Prime Minister of Jamaica Percival James (PJ) Patterson acknowledged Cuba's international assistance in tackling the SARS-CoV-2 / COVID-19 pandemic around the world, in a statement issued this Wednesday by the PJ Patterson Centre for Africa-Caribbean Policy Advocacy, in the University of the West Indies (UWI).

Kingston, Jamaica, 21 April 2020. The Jamaica Patriotic Movement (JPM) today thanked Cuba for its selfless help in sending a medical brigade to its nation to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr. Carlos Daley, President of the JPM, expressed his gratitude to Prensa Latina on behalf of the Jamaican people for the humanism of the Cuban government in its tireless effort to contribute to the well-being of those who need medical care.

The novel coronavirus, COVID-19, again exposes the weaknesses of Capitalism and liberal ideology. The countries which have shown the best response to this crisis are countries where the government is heavily involved in the response through provision of public healthcare, planned distribution of food to lessen the need for people to leave their homes, and responsible policies on social behaviour like quarantines, social distancing, and extra time off from work.
