Foreign Minister of Jamaica calls for an end to the blockade and the removal of Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

New York, 27 September 2024. Jamaica's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson Smith, while addressing the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) stated: ´(...)Jamaica therefore, again, joins the call for the discontinuation of the crippling economic, commercial and financial embargo against our closest Caribbean neighbour, Cuba. We further call for a cessation of the classification of Cuba as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Ambassador of Cuba in Jamaica meets with the president of the NGO ‘Volunteers Incorporated’.

Kingston, 25 September 2024. The Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica Fermín Quiñones Sánchez received Davor Bailey, president of the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) ‘Volunteers Incorporated’.

During the exchange, Bailey acknowledged the prestige and resilience of Cuba in the field of health and recognized the support provided by our country to the Jamaican people that has allowed quality care to thousands of people in the country's health care centres. Both parties highlighted the possibilities of working together to develop cooperation projects.

Nearly 600 parliamentarians from 73 countries call on the US to take Cuba off the “state-sponsor of terrorism” list

Nearly 600 parliamentarians from 73 countries across the globe have written a joint letter, coordinated and published by the Progressive International (PI), condemning Cuba’s designation by the United States as a “state-sponsor of terrorism” as “cynical, cruel, and a clear violation of international law”. In the letter, published today, Friday 20 September, the legislators call on their respective governments to “take immediate action to advocate for [the designation’s] removal.”

President of the People's Political Party ‘Marcus Garvey’ visits Cuba.

Havana, 16 September 2024. Antwayne Campbell, president of the Marcus Garvey People's Political Party (MGPPP) paid a working visit to Cuba between 9 and 13 September.

During his stay, he held a meeting with the president of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) Felix Duarte Ortega, in which possibilities for cooperation in agricultural matters were evaluated with a view to advancing food security programmes. He also visited the facilities of the Institute of Animal Science.

35 former world presidents send letter to US president requesting that Cuba be removed from list of countries that support terrorism

Former Colombian President Ernesto Samper released a letter signed by him and 34 other former presidents from Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and Asia.

In the letter, the former leaders asked President Joe Biden to remove Cuba from the list before the end of his term in office and asked him to heed this humanitarian call to alleviate the situation of millions of innocent people. ‘No country should compromise the seriousness of the fight against the scourge of terrorism for political ends,’ the document concludes.
