Kingston, 7 February , 2024 - Ambassador of Cuba to Jamaica, Fermín Quiñones Sánchez, accompanied the Honourable Christopher Tufton, Jamaica's Minister of Health and Wellness, on a visit to the headquarters of the Cuba-Jamaica Eye Care Programme at Saint Joseph's Hospital in the capital.
UN experts* today urged the United States to review its national framework that triggers targeted sanctions against States designated as Sponsors of Terrorism (SSTs).
Currently, four countries - the Republic of Cuba, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Syrian Arab Republic - appear on this US State Department list, with additional restrictions imposed as a result of the designation.

Jamaicans continue to benefit under the Jamaica-Cuba Eye Care Programme with 1, 230 sight-saving procedures conducted since September 2023.
The programme, which has been operating in Jamaca since 2010, resumed last September after being suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
