The United States takes steps in the right direction, but the blockade remains in force

On January 14, 2025, the government of the United States announced the following decisions:

1. Remove Cuba from the State Department list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism;

2. Make use of the presidential faculty to prevent US courts from taking action with regards to lawsuits that might be filed by virtue of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act; and

In the spirit of the Ordinary Jubilee of the Year 2025, the Cuban Government releases persons who are serving prison sentences.

As part of the close and fluid relations with the Vatican, the Government of Cuba has remained in touch with Pope Francis and his representatives and, as has occurred in the past, has kept His Holiness informed about the processes of review of the convictions and the release on imprisoned person, a practice that is common in our judicial system and has characterized the humanitarian record of the Revolution.

Cuba formally joins South Africa's lawsuit against Israel for genocide in Palestine

The Government of the Republic of Cuba formally submitted to the International Court of Justice at its headquarters in The Hague, Netherlands, the Declaration of Intervention in the case “Application of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip” (South Africa against Israel).

The Declaration was made under Article 63 of the Statute of the Court and it shares the concerns expressed by the Republic of South Africa against Israel for the genocide in Palestine, the country hereby joining the lawsuit filed by the African nation.

Cuban Ambassador to Norway visits TravelXpo 2025

Oslo, January 13, 2025. This Sunday, the Cuban Ambassador to the Kingdom of Norway, Maité Rivero Torres, toured the TravelXpo 2025 tourism fair, which took place from January 10 to 12, at Nova Spektrum, located in the municipality of Lillestrøm, Akershus County.

The event gathered around one hundred exhibitors, including agencies, tour operators and other players in the tourism and travel industry, both Norwegian and international, which met thousands of visitors in just three days. It also included an extensive program of presentations on trips and tourist destinations.

Oslo, January 9, 2025. The ambassador of Cuba, Maité Rivero Torres, attended Travelmatch Norway 2025, the country's biggest and most important B2B event for outbound travel.

Hundreds of participants from several countries gathered in this 14th edition, where suppliers of all kinds of travel-related products and services, from within and outside Norway, have the opportunity to meet with buyers and sellers present in the Norwegian market.
