Celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Cuba and New Zealand

Wellington, October 16, 2024.- To commemorate the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, an exhibition of Cuban art by renowned visual artist Yosvany Martínez Pérez was inaugurated at the New Zealand Parliament. The ceremony was attended by Gerry Brownlee, Speaker of the House, Todd McClay, Minister of Agriculture and Trade and Associate Minister for Foreign Affairs, representatives of all parliamentary parties, James Waite, Director of the Americas at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, members of the Diplomatic Corps, journalists, and friends of Cuba.

Opening Ceremony of the Latin American Film Festival in Wellington

Wellington, September 17, 2024.- On September 27, Wellington was dressed up to host the opening ceremony of the 2024 Latin American Film Festival, an event that aims to celebrate and promote the cultural and cinematic richness of Latin America and Spain in the New Zealand capital. The opening ceremony was attended by the distinguished ambassadors of Latin American and Spain countries accredited in Wellington, as well as the city’s mayor, Tory Whanau, who emphasized the importance of this festival as a cultural bridge between New Zealand and Spanish-speaking countries.

End US rulers’ economic war against Cuba!

AUCKLAND, New Zealand — In campaigning against the over 60-year U.S. economic war against Cuba, “it’s important to demand Cuba’s removal from Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism list,” Luis Ernesto Morejón Rodríguez, Cuba’s ambassador to New Zealand, told a public meeting here Sept. 14. Cuban Embassy Consul Hortensia Rodríguez Martínez also took part.

Some 30 people attended the event, which was organized by the Cuba Friendship Society.

Hundreds of parliamentarians from 73 countries say "take Cuba off the list"

We, the undersigned parliamentarians from across the globe, condemn the designation of Cuba as a “state-sponsor of terrorism” and call on our respective governments to take immediate action to advocate for its removal.

The United Sates’ designation of Cuba as a “state-sponsor of terrorism” is cynical, cruel, and a clear violation of international law.
