At the first meeting of the year 2018, held on 22 February, the Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, was re-elected as Vice-Chairperson of the "Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples", known as the United Nations Decolonization Committee.
New York, February 22, 2018. The Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo, had a brief meeting on February 20 with Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine and of the Palestinian National Authority, who traveled to New York to participate in the Security Council briefing on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question.
New York, February 20, 2018. With the broad participation of delegations, the first phase of intergovernmental negotiations for the adoption of the Global Compact for safe, orderly and regular migration began at the UN headquarters in New York.

New York, February 20, 2018. During the briefing by the Deputy Spokesman for the Secretary-General, held at noon on February 19, Cuba's contribution to the United Nations was recognized, having paid in full its assessed contribution to the Organization's regular budget for 2018. Including the island, there are 53 nations that have fulfilled this important financial obligation.
Moreover, Cuba has completed payment for most of its contributions to the Peacekeeping Operations budget, among other financial commitments that it upholds with the United Nations.
