Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs concludes tour to the Caribbean with working visit to Jamaica

Kingston, Jamaica, 14th June, 2018.- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affair of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, started a working visit to Jamaica as part of a tour that began last June 5th, to five Caribbean nations. Sierra Diaz is accompanied by the director for Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean affairs at the Cuban Chancery, Jorge Luís Mayo Fernández.

Jamaica is of special importance to Cuba because together with Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and Barbados, established diplomatic relations with Cuba on December 8th, 1972.

Seventh Meeting of the Cuba-United States Bilateral Commission held in Washington D.C. 

On June 14, 2018, the Seventh Bilateral Commission Meeting between Cuba and the United States was held in Washington, D.C. 

Even in the present circumstances, the Commission remains as an official dialogue forum for the direct discussion of differences and the follow-up on issues in which there is cooperation and mutual interest.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the areas of exchange and cooperation where activities were carried out in the most recent months and to confirm potentials to move forward in other sectors. 

Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Rogelio Sierra Díaz, concluded a visit to Guyana.

Georgetown, June 14th, 2018.- During his stay in Guyana, Vice Minister Sierra Diaz developed an extensive program that included courtesy calls to President David Granger, Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo and Minister of State and Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs, Joseph Harmon, and the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Audrey Waddell.  The leaders agreed to recognize the value of the historic relations between Guyana and Cuba that date back to 1972, when this one and three other Caribbean counties decided bravely to break the diplomatic siege imposed by the United States to the Cuban island.

Monrovia, June 14, 2018-, On the occasion of reviewing the topics of mutual interest in bilateral cooperation and the procedures to effectively advance in these, the Assistant Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration of the Foreign Ministry of Liberia, Mr. Sherdrick Jackson, received the Chargé d'Affaires of Cuba, Yordenis Despaigne Vera. This working session was also attended by the Liberian counterpart, Senior Desk Officer for multilateral Organizations, Mr. Dave B.
