Cuba rejects U.S. decision to incarcerate migrants in the Guantanamo Naval Base

Statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Cuba rejects the decision announced by the President of the United States to use the Guantanamo Naval Base to imprison tens of thousands of migrants he has proposed to forcibly expel.  It is a demonstration of the brutality with which that government is acting to supposedly correct problems created by the economic and social conditions of that country, the government's own management and its foreign policy, including hostility towards countries of origin.

National Day celebrated at the Cuban Embassy in Ottawa

Cuban Embassy in Canada celebrated National Day in homage to the 66th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution and the 172nd Anniversary of the birth of Cuba's National Hero, José Martí.

The event was attended by Carolyn Knobel, Director for Central America, Cuba and the Dominican Republic of Global Affairs Canada; Gabriel Ste-Marie, co-chair of the Cuba-Canada Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group; as well as other Canadian government authorities, parliamentarians, accredited diplomats, businessmen, intellectuals, Cuban residents and friends of Cuba.

Statement of the Revolutionary Government

US President Donald Trump lashes out against Cuba from day one and without pretext. The decision to reinstate the tough economic warfare measures against Cuba, which his predecessor removed just days before, proves the aggressiveness of US imperialism against the sovereignty, peace and welfare of the Cuban people. These measures comprise the inclusion of our country, once again, in the arbitrary list of States that allegedly sponsor terrorism, a designation that shows an absolute disregard for the truth.

Cuba and Canada strengthen inter-parliamentary relations

Member of the Political Bureau of the Party Central Committee Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) and of the Council of State, exchanged on Wednesday, at the National Capitol, with members of the Canada-Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group (GPA) delegation visiting our country.

We ratify the will to expand and strengthen inter-parliamentary relations, said the head of the supreme organ of state power, while greeting the Canadian legislators.

The United States takes steps in the right direction, but the blockade remains in force.

Declaration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba

On January 14, 2025, the government of the United States announced the following decisions:

 

1. Remove Cuba from the State Department list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism;

2. Make use of the presidential faculty to prevent US courts from taking action with regards to lawsuits that might be filed by virtue of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act; and
