Cuba hosts the Opening Gala of the 26th Edition of the Latin American Film Festival of Ottawa.

At the Cuban Embassy in Canada, GRULA member countries celebrated the Opening Gala of the 26th Edition of the Latin American Film Festival of Ottawa. 

 

As part of the event, GRULA's Dean, Ambassador of Peru, Roberto Rodriguez Arnillas delivered the keynote speech of the celebration, followed by a message from the Mayor of the City of Ottawa, Mark Sutcliff, and remarks from the Secretary General of Saint Paul University, center that will host the film presentations.

 

Successful exchange with students from Carleton University

A successful meeting took place at the Cuban Embassy in Canada with students from Carleton University, who will soon travel to our country as part of an academic exchange between this center of higher studies and the University of Havana.

 

During the meeting, topics of interest such as the history, culture and traditions of Cuba were discussed, as well as the principles governing the foreign policy of our country, the bilateral relations between Cuba and Canada, the effects of the U.S. blockade on our society, and the achievements of the Cuban Revolution.

 

Exchange with members of the Young Communist League

The Press and Cultural Attaché of the Cuban Embassy in Canada, Aileen Carmenaty, held a pleasant exchange with members of the Young Communist League and friends of the solidarity groups in Ottawa, in which they discussed the new Cuban Family Code. 

 

The meeting allowed the attendees to go deeper on aspects related to the new Cuban Code and to know details of its popular consultation and referendum. 

 

The Cuban Ambassador to Canada paid a courtesy visit to the Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Ontario

The Cuban Ambassador to Canada, Héctor Igarza Cabrera, paid a courtesy visit to the Honorable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of the Province of Ontario.

During the meeting, the willingness to strengthen the relations and to work on projects of mutual interest, especially in cultural matters, was ratified. The Ambassador also updated the Lieutenant Governor on the negative impact of the U.S. blockade on the Cuban people for more than six decades.  

The Consul General of Cuba in Toronto, Jorge Yanier Castellanos Orta, also participated in the meeting.

 

Successful meeting between the Cuban Ambassador to Canada and Doug Ford, Premier of the province of Ontario

The Cuban Ambassador to Canada, Héctor Igarza Cabrera, held a courtesy meeting with Doug Ford, Premier of the province of Ontario.

The meeting was propitious to reaffirm the willingness to move forward in projects of mutual interest, as well as in broad possibilities for the development of bilateral ties in various sectors. The participants agreed on the fact that in the current scenario, both parties have much to offer in terms of the welfare of their peoples.

The Cuban side was also represented by Jorge Yanier Castellanos Orta, Consul General in Toronto.
