Cuba’s Consul in Montreal, Ángel Torres, denounced on Thursday before representatives of North American trade unions the escalation of U.S. aggressions against the island, the tightening of the blockade, and the absurd accusation against the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro.

Bruno Rodríguez: "The threat of the use of force against Cuba by the world’s greatest military power is coupled with the suffocating tightening of its economic, commercial, and financial blockade against our country, exacerbated by an oil embargo equivalent to a naval blockade, and the imposition of other coercive economic measures against third countries (...)"

On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, before a cheering crowd of Cuban exile luminaries in Miami’s Freedom Tower, acting US Attorney General Todd Blanche announced the “historic” indictment of 94-year-old former Cuban President Raúl Castro on charges of ordering the murders of four American nationals 30 years ago.

Cuban Ambassador Rodrigo Malmierca describes the relations between his country and Canada as “friendly and highly respectful.”

“We have had more than eighty years of uninterrupted diplomatic relations. Even in the 1960s, when many countries severed ties with Cuba under pressure from the United States, Canada maintained those relations. That demonstrates the level of respect and understanding that has existed between both countries,” he emphasized.
