South Africa expresses support to Cuba ahead of the voting in the UN General Assembly on Cuba’s resolution on ending the economic embargo imposed by the USA*

President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed South Africa’s support for Cuba’s annual resolution on the “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States of America (USA) against Cuba,” which will be voted on in the General Assembly at the United Nations (UN) Headquarters in New York on Wednesday, 31 October 2018.

An emotional ceremony of diploma delivery to South African students and professors graduated in various ballet courses took place in the main theater of Montecasino, Johannesburg, on Saturday, October 27.

Nearly a hundred children, young people and teachers of different levels, trained in South Africa under the method of the Cuban School of Ballet, received their graduation diplomas from the Cuban Ambassador, Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Guest of Honor at the event.

The friendship organizations with Cuba in Azerbaijan and Georgia announced through their leaders' pronouncements the support for the Cuban people and the condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on the island for more than half a century.

In friendly meetings held at the Embassy of the Republic in Baku with Arif Huseynov, of Azerbaijan and Pavel Djibouti of Georgia, the Cuban ambassador, Alfredo Nieves Portuondo, offered details about the effects caused to the Cuban people by the blockade.

This afternoon in Belmopan, Minister of Transport and National Emergency Management Hon Edmond Castro met with Cuba’s Ambassador to Belize, Her Excellency Lissette Pérez. Besides serving as an introduction and familiarization between the Minister and the Ambassador, the meeting featured discussion on substantive matters of mutual interest. Issues discussed included partnership and technical cooperation between Belize and Cuba in Disaster Management and Fire-fighting.

Belize takes this opportunity to confirm its unwavering support for draft resolution A/73/L.3.

We do so, fortified in the universal acceptance, that international law affords no exception for violations of the rule of law.

By consistently and overwhelmingly rejecting the unilateral, economic, commercial and financial embargo against Cuba and its people as a violation of the Charter and international law, the General Assembly itself affirms the no exception rule.

KINGSTON, JAMAICA, 31st October, 2018.- The Parliament of Jamaica adopted unanimously and for the tenth consecutive occasion, a resolution to reject the criminal blockade the United States has imposed to Cuba during almost six decades.

The text of the resolution, presented by the Attorney General, Marlene Malahoo Forte, stresses that the economic, commercial and financial blockade constitutes the main obstacle to Cuba´s economic and social development and represents a violation of the International Law.

The president of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, will begin an international visit on November 2, which will include the Russian Federation, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, the People's Republic of China, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Lao People's Democratic Republic.

During his visit, the Cuban leader will hold official talks with the leaders of the countries visited, with whom he will review the main topics of the respective bilateral agendas and the international scenario.
