CUBA’S REPORT: On Resolution 70/5 of the United Nations General Assembly entitled “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba”.

INTRODUCTION

In the period between April of 2015 and April of 2016 some results have been achieved in the bilateral relations between the United States and Cuba. It can particularly be indicated the re-establishing of diplomatic relations and the re-opening of embassies that were preceded by the just action of taking Cuba off the spurious list of States sponsoring terrorism, a list on which Cuba should never have been in the first place.

Cuba and Iran aim to revive its scientific collaboration

A delegation of the Cuban scientific sector, headed by Dr. Luis Herrera Martinez, Scientific and Commercial Advisor of the Higher Business Management Organization “BioCubaFarma”, arrived in Tehran for talks with Pasteur Institute of Iran. Upon arrival at the Iranian capital the delegation was received by representatives of this institute and the Ambassador of Cuba, Vladimir González Quesada.

 

Cuba confirms commitment to cooperation with the Pacific

Pohnpei, 11 September 2016. – On the occasion of the Post Forum Dialogue at the 47th session of the Pacific Islands Forum, the Director General for Bilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Gerardo Peñalver Portal, confirmed the commitment of his country with the region, highlighting the willingness to continue exploring new cooperation projects.

President of Ghana receives Cuban Ambassador

The Ambassador of Cuba to Ghana, Mr. Pedro Luis Gonzalez Despaigne was received by the President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama. The meeting took place at the Residence of the Ghanaian President.

Both sides made an assessment of the state of bilateral relations and the ongoing cooperation actions, both in the bilateral and multilateral order.

The result of the meeting shows the existence of strong ties of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

New York, 9 September 2016. On December 17, 2014, within the process of reestablishment of relations between Cuba and the United States, President Barack Obama acknowledged the failure of the traditional U.S. policy towards Cuba and promised to undertake a debate in Congress in order to lift the Embargo. Following this new approach, the President announced several executive measures aimed at modifying the implementation of some of its aspects.

Cuba and countries of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean committed to boosting bilateral relations.

Dominica, Roseau, September 8, 2016. The Ambassador of Cuba in Dominica, Juan Carlos Frómeta held a working meeting with the Head of the Business Unit Competitive the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) based in the capital, Mr. Marlon Marie, as well as other officials of the organization.
