The Cuban Ambassador Tania López Larroque arrives in Jamaica.

Kingston, 8 December 2025. On the date marking the 53rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and Jamaica, Ambassador-designate Tania López Larroque arrived in the capital of the Caribbean nation. She was received at Norman Manley International Airport by officials from the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Jamaica and the Chargé d'Affaires a.i. of the Diplomatic Mission, Rolando Dávila Gallardo.

Cuban Ambassador attended to the Connected Caribbean Summit 2025

The Cuban Ambassador to Grenada, Ivette Martinez,participated in the Connected Caribbean Summit 2025, where more than 200 leaders from the region, under the theme "Catalyzing the Transformation of the Caribbean," are exchanging ideas on how to accelerate regional progress in priority areas: economic resilience, digital innovation, judicial reform, strengthening governance, modernizing education, and financial inclusion.

Cuba celebrates 53 years of ties with Caribbean Nations

With a commitment to continue strengthening and further leveraging cooperation throughout the region, based on shared history and Caribbean brotherhood, Cuba celebrates its 53rd anniversary of diplomatic relations with the Caribbean.

Meeting at the Conference of Heads of Government in Chaguaramas, Trinidad and Tobago, in 1972, Prime Ministers Errol Barrow (Barbados), Michael Manley (Jamaica), Eric Williams (Trinidad and Tobago), and Forbes Burnham (Guyana) announced to the world their sovereign decision to establish relations with Cuba.

Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Permanent Representative of Cuba, spoke at the Organizational Meeting of the Human Rights Council regarding Decision 59/115 on the implementation of Council-mandated activities. He reiterated the call to the Office of the High Commissioner to provide comprehensive and systematic information on the costs, available financial resources, and human resources associated with the implementation of the activities mandated by the Council in 2025 and 2026. This information will enable Member States to develop a methodology for making timely and well-founded decisions on the mandated activities within the current context of financial pressures

Statement by Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez Verson, Permanent Representative of Cuba, on the Adoption of the Draft President's Statement of the Human Rights Council on Efficiency, Presented at the Council's Organizational Meeting

At the Council's Organizational Meeting, Ambassador Rodolfo Benítez stressed that Cuba is aware of the financial crisis facing the Human Rights Council, largely due to the non-compliance with financial commitments by the United States. He stated that moving forward, it is not possible to further rationalize the Council's functioning by emphasizing conference management measures. Other actions must be undertaken to significantly reduce costs while simultaneously improving the Council's efficiency.

Chronicles of Osvaldo Cárdenas: establishment of diplomatic relations between four independent Caribbean states and Cuba

Between 8 and 12 August 1972, the Conference of Foreign Ministers of the Non-Aligned Movement was held in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.

This was the first time that a meeting of the movement had been held in Latin America and the Caribbean. The meeting was preparatory to the Fourth Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement, which was to be held in Algeria in 1973.

Cuba-Caricom Day Reflection

As we reflect on Cuba Caricom Day which is commemorated on the 8th of December  each year, we go back 53 years ago in 1972, when 4 of our recently independent states namely, Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago,took the bold and historic step in establishing diplomatic relations with our sister country Cuba.This was done despite the  pressures and shenanigans of USA and its regional enforcer, the Organisation of American States(OAS)
