Solidarity with Cuba in Warsaw

Warsaw, April 12, 2026: Cuba’s ambassador to Poland, Ibete Fernández Hernández, held a meeting with friends of Cuba in Poland and representatives of left-wing organizations who stand in solidarity with the island as it faces the energy blockade imposed on January 29 by the U.S. government.

The Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Cuba, Tanieris Diéguez La O, and the Cultural Attaché, David Ramírez Álvarez, took part in the official presentation of Marta Turok as the new Executive Director of the Mexican Cultural Institute. The event brought together a broad diplomatic representation, as well as institutional leaders and prominent figures from the artistic and cultural spheres, in a setting conducive to exchange and the promotion of cultural initiatives with international reach.

As in previous years, officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in Barbados attended the launch of the Emancipation Season and the Commemoration of the Anniversary of the Bussa Rebellion on April 14, 2026.

The event took place at Groves Plantation, located in St. Philip Parish, under the auspices of the Office of Pan-African Affairs and Heritage, within the Prime Minister's Office. The Minister, the Honorable Trevor Prescod, addressed the audience, emphasizing the importance of this commemoration.

Pretoria, April 14, 2026 – Cuban Ambassador Fakri Rodríguez paid a visit this morning to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, where he was received by its CEO, Dr. Mbongiseni Buthelezi. It was with great pride that we viewed the Cuban “Order of Playa Girón” awarded to Nelson Mandela in 1984, even while he was unjustly imprisoned on Robben Island. Both parties highlighted the historical ties that unite Cuba and South Africa, which stem from the close relationship between leaders Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela.
