Pretoria, April 14, 2026 – Cuban Ambassador Fakri Rodríguez paid a visit this morning to the Nelson Mandela Foundation, where he was received by its CEO, Dr. Mbongiseni Buthelezi. It was with great pride that we viewed the Cuban “Order of Playa Girón” awarded to Nelson Mandela in 1984, even while he was unjustly imprisoned on Robben Island. Both parties highlighted the historical ties that unite Cuba and South Africa, which stem from the close relationship between leaders Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela.

Pretoria, April 13, 2026 – The editor and founder of the independent digital media outlet Southern Africa Eye News, Faisal Iqbal, visited the Cuban Embassy in this African capital this morning, where he shared his media project with Cuban Ambassador Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo. During the meeting, both discussed projects and initiatives that could be carried out as part of their upcoming visit to Cuba to participate, as representatives of South Africa, in the V International Colloquium "Patria" on Digital Communication, to be held from April 16 to 18, 2026, in Havana.

Pretoria, 8 April 2026 – At a formal ceremony held at the South African Government’s headquarters, the Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, presented the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, with his Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the African nation. Both sides agreed on the importance of deepening ties between Havana and Pretoria.

Havana, April 8th, 2026.- Recent statements made by some US Government officials speculate, without any evidence whatsoever, about the fact that the Government of Cuba could be involved in frauds targeting the US health care program Medicare in South Florida. This is a new slander fabricated by anti-Cuban sectors in that country. The Cuban Government reiterates its willingness to jointly confront the transnational crimes originating in the US by means of a timely exchange of information.
