Cuban solidarity is on the rise in South Africa

Pretoria, 31 January 2026: The South African Communist Party (SACP), its Youth League, and the Association of Friendship with Cuba have issued strong statements condemning the signing and publication of the Presidential Memorandum by the Donald Trump administration, which threatens a total blockade of all fuel supplies to Cuba. They reject the United States' attempt to punish any country that trades with Cuba in the energy sector, particularly in relation to fuel. This is an attempt to further suffocate the Cuban people, who have suffered from the US economic blockade for over 60 years.

South African students also reaffirm solidarity with Cuba

Ekurhuleni, 31 January 2026.- The South African Students' Congress (SASCO) reiterated its solidarity with Cuba and its people at the National Executive Committee meeting held this morning. In his speech, the organisation's president, Alungile Kamtshe, condemned Donald Trump's presidential order threatening to block all fuel supplies to Cuba and highlighted the spirit of resilience of the Cuban people.

ANC reaffirms solidarity with Cuba

Pretoria, January 30, 2026.– The African National Congress (ANC) issued a strong statement of solidarity with Cuba, following the publication of the Presidential Memorandum by the Donald Trump administration threatening a total blockade of all fuel supplies to the island. The ANC strongly condemned the imposition of this blockade and described the measure as a direct assault on the Cuban people.

Cuba condemns and denounces new escalation of US economic blockade

Havana, January 30, 2026.- The Revolutionary Government condemns in the strongest terms the new escalation by the US government against Cuba in its efforts to impose a total blockade on fuel supplies to our country. The executive order issued by the US President on January 29, 2026, declares a supposed national emergency, under which his government will be able to impose trade tariffs on imports of products from countries that supply oil to Cuba. 

Fruitful meeting with South African Minister of Higher Education

Pretoria, 29 January 2026.- The Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, held a fruitful meeting with the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela, and his team. The South African minister recalled his previous visits to Cuba and confirmed his interest in returning to finalize new agreements with the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education.
