Cuban Ambassador received by the Speaker of the National Assembly of South Africa
Cape Town, 21 May 2026. — Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, was received by the Honorable Thoko Didiza, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of South Africa, at a meeting held at the National Parliament. The meeting addressed the historic relations between Cuba and South Africa and cooperation between both parliaments.
Discussion held on possibilities for collaboration with the University of the Western Cape.
Cape Town, 21 May 2026. —During his working visit to Cape Town, the Cuban ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez, visited the University of the Western Cape (UWC), where he held discussions with its rector and vice-chancellor, Professor Robert Balfour. The meeting provided a forum for fruitful dialogue to explore and strengthen academic and scientific cooperation between South African and Cuban universities. Possible areas of collaboration were discussed, including joint research programs, postgraduate training and projects in health sciences and agriculture.
Documentary "Cuba after Castro" premieres in South Africa

ANC Parliamentary Caucus ratifies support for Cuba
Cape Town, 21 May 2026. — During a visit to the South African Parliament, the Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez, met with members of the ANC Parliamentary Caucus, who also form part of an International Relations study group within the National Assembly. The exchange was aimed at strengthening bilateral ties.

The event was attended by an audience of students, academics and friends of Cuba. Many of those present were moved to sign the global campaign “I sign for Cuba”.
