A fruitful exchange at the University of the Western Cape reaffirms support for Cuba.

Cape Town, 20 May 2026. —During his visit to the University of the Western Cape, the Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez, gave a lecture on the current situation in Cuba and bilateral relations between Cuba and South Africa. The event was attended by an audience of students, academics and friends of Cuba. Many of those present were moved to sign the global campaign “I sign for Cuba”.

Pretoria, 13 May 2026.—The Economic Counsellor at the Cuban Embassy, Yulian Reyes Caballero, took part in the preparatory session for the new students from Gauteng Province who will travel to Cuba soon as part of 2026 edition of the Fidel-Mandela Medicine Program. The Embassy’s participation in preparatory activities such as those held today reaffirms Cuba’s ongoing commitment to training qualified healthcare personnel in South Africa and to deepening the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Cuba and South Africa celebrate 32 years of diplomatic relations

Pretoria, 11 May 2026. — The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in South Africa today hosted the 32nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which were formalised in Pretoria on 11 May 1994 by Presidents Nelson Mandela and Fidel Castro.

UNEAC and NWASA sign MOU

Pretoria, South Africa, 5 May 2026 – In an emotive ceremony held at the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in South Africa, the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and the National Writers’ Association of South Africa (NWASA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). This document marks a significant step forward in cultural and literary collaboration between the two nations, consolidating years of dialogue that began in 2023.

Cuban Ambassador meets South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Public Works

Pretoria, 4 May 2026. — The Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, received South Africa’s Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Sihle Zikalala, at the Embassy in a meeting that highlighted both countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation on infrastructure matters. This meeting forms part of the ongoing dialogue between the governments of Cuba and South Africa to identify new opportunities for cooperation that benefit both nations.
