Director General of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry received the Cuban ambassador

Colombo, November 22. The Cuban ambassador to Sri Lanka, Andrés Marcelo González Garrido, was received at the Sri Lankan Foreign Ministry by C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne, Director General of Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the pleasant meeting, they reviewed bilateral aspects and outlined lines of work for the continuation and strengthening of diplomatic relations, which this year 2024 are celebrating 65 years of establishment.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the continued air strikes perpetrated by Israeli government forces against residential areas in Beirut and Damascus, in flagrant violation of International Law, even International Humanitarian Law.

Cuba condemns, in particular, the air strike launched on November 14 by Israeli forces occupying the Syrian Golan against the residential neighborhood of Mezzeh, in Damascus, where diplomatic missions and United Nations offices accredited to Syria are located.

During the fraternal meeting, the ambassador congratulated him on his recent appointment as governor and updated him on the progress of bilateral relations in the political and commercial spheres, thanking Sri Lanka for its continued support for the Cuban resolution against the blockade that is approved by a majority at the United Nations headquarters year after year.

Consulted by the Lanka Leader newspaper about Wednesday’s vote at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) against the US blockade, the representative of the solidarity group affirmed that Washington is ignoring the international demand.
