Strengthening academic ties with Walter Sisulu University

Mthatha, February 5, 2026.- As part of the tour around different provinces of the country, the Cuban ambassador to South Africa, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, visited Walter Sisulu University in the Eastern Cape province. He was received by the university's vice-chancellor and principal, Dr. Thandi Mgwebi, with whom he held a fruitful exchange on the possibilities for cooperation between the universities of both our countries.

Tribute to Fidel in Bloemfontein, South Africa

Bloemfontein, February 4, 2026.- Comrades and friends of Cuba in the Free State paid heartfelt tribute to the Commander-in-Chief of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, at the foot of the statue built in his name in 2017 in the heart of the city. This tribute is part of the activities that will take place around the world to commemorate the Fidel´s centenary and marks the beginning of those that will take place in South Africa.

Cuba condemns terrorism and reaffirms its cooperation in matters of security and the fight against money laundering

Havana, February 1, 2026.- Cuba unequivocally condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, while reaffirming its commitment to cooperate with the United States and other nations to strengthen regional and international security. Cuba categorically declares that it does not harbor, support, finance, or tolerate terrorist or extremist organizations. Our country upholds a zero-tolerance policy against the financing of terrorism and money laundering, and is committed to the prevention, detection, and confrontation of illicit financial activities.

Cuban solidarity is on the rise in South Africa

Pretoria, 31 January 2026: The South African Communist Party (SACP), its Youth League, and the Association of Friendship with Cuba have issued strong statements condemning the signing and publication of the Presidential Memorandum by the Donald Trump administration, which threatens a total blockade of all fuel supplies to Cuba. They reject the United States' attempt to punish any country that trades with Cuba in the energy sector, particularly in relation to fuel. This is an attempt to further suffocate the Cuban people, who have suffered from the US economic blockade for over 60 years.
