Cuban Ambassador to South Africa presents his credentials.

Pretoria, 8 April 2026 – At a formal ceremony held at the South African Government’s headquarters, the Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, presented the President of the Republic of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, with his Letters of Credence accrediting him as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to the African nation.  Both sides agreed on the importance of deepening ties between Havana and Pretoria.

A brotherly meeting with the South African Communist Party

In South Africa Fidel was remembered and honoured on his centenary

Pretoria, 24 March 2026.—As part of the activities marking the centenary of our Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, the Cuban Embassy together with the University of Pretoria, organized the seminar “Fidel and Mandela: The Legacy of Two Great Leaders”, held at the Javett Art Centre. he event was attended by Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma and Professor Blade Nzimande. A fruitful academic exchange took place between students, lecturers, members of the diplomatic corps and Cuban collaborators.

South Africa marks the 38th anniversary of the victory at Cuito Cuanavale

Pretoria, 23 March 2026.—The 38th anniversary of the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale in Angola was commemorated on Monday at the historic Freedom Park. The speakers highlighted the fundamental role played by Cuban fighters in Africa under the leadership of our eternal Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro. They called for continued solidarity and support for Cuba in the current circumstances of heightened threats from the US administration.

South Africa marks the 30th anniversary of medical cooperation in the country

Pretoria, 21 March 2026. —Members of the Cuban Embassy in South Africa, together with representatives from the various Cuban cooperation brigades, and Cubans livings here, marked the 30th anniversary of the arrival of the first health specialists in the country with a friendly game of softball. In a very Cuban atmosphere, with baseball, dominoes, caldosa and the Van Van music group, the event celebrated not only achievements in healthcare but also the friendship between Cuba and South Africa, symbolized by the relationship between Fidel Castro and Nelson Mandela.
