Cuban State Mission in South Africa pays tribute to Fidel

Pretoria, 13 August 2026. — Today, before the ‘Wall of Names’ at Freedom Park in Pretoria, the State Mission of the Republic of Cuba in South Africa paid a solemn and moving tribute to Fidel Castro on his centenary and to the Cuban internationalist fighters who fell on African soil. Beside the inscriptions that will preserve their names for ever, those present renewed our commitment to the ideas and legacy of the Commander-in-Chief.

South Africa commemorates the centenary of the Commander-in-Chief

Johannesburg, 13 August 2026. — At a moving ceremony held at the Gauteng Legislature, the South African community, the Cuban diplomatic mission and international representatives gathered to mark the centenary of Commander Fidel Castro and reflect on his political and humanist legacy. The speakers emphasized the importance of keeping alive the memory of those who fought for human dignity and of transforming that memory into practical commitment in the face of the economic coercion currently threatening Cuba.

South African Parliament convened a dialogue on Cuba-SA relations

Cape Town, 12 August 2026. — The Cuban Ambassador, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, took part in an event held at the South African Parliament to examine the history, current state and future prospects of relations between Cuba and South Africa. The dialogue provided an opportunity to explore the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, including health, education, biotechnology, human resources development and parliamentary diplomacy. In this context, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to seizing current opportunities to translate their historic friendship into new projects and concrete results.

Sport and unity pay tribute to Fidel

Pretoria, 11 August 2026. — The Cuban State Mission in South Africa and Cuban residents held a popular sporting event amongst compatriots, dedicated to the centenary of the birth of our eternal Commander-in-Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz. The event reaffirmed the Cubans’ commitment to the defense of national sovereignty, solidarity and the continuity of the revolutionary cause.
