NEHAWU Leadership reaffirms friendship with Cuba.

Pretoria, 30 July 2026. — The Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in South Africa expresses its deepest gratitude and satisfaction at the visit by the leadership of the National Union of Public and Service Employees (NEHAWU), a sister organization which, over many years, has played a leading role in relations of solidarity with Cuba. The delegation was led by the President of NEHAWU, Nyameka Macanda, who was elected in June 2026 during the union’s 13th National Congress.

Bloemfontein, July 25, 2026 — South Africans and Cubans celebrated in solidarity the 73rd anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks, at a moving ceremony held beside the statue of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz in the city of Bloemfontein, Free State province. The commemoration brought together representatives of the district SACP, officials from the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba in South Africa, members of the Cuban community in the country and friends of Cuba, who reaffirmed their commitment to the ideals of social justice, sovereignty and internationalism.

Pretoria hosts meeting to boost educational exchanges with Cuba.

Pretoria, 24 July 2026 — The Cuban Embassy in South Africa today held a fruitful meeting aimed at promoting and consolidating bilateral academic exchange programmes between the two countries. The event brought together representatives from various South African universities, specialist travel agencies and Embassy officials, with the aim of identifying specific opportunities for educational cooperation, student mobility and the development of joint research projects.
