Support for Cuba in South Africa reaches Cape Times newspaper

Cape Town, 27 January 2026.- The renowned and prestigious Cape Town-based newspaper Cape Times published the article “The United States «checkmate» against Cuba is doomed to fail” by Fatima Swartz, a founding and still active member of the solidarity movement with Cuba in South Africa. The article discusses the recent threats by the United States against Cuba, following the imperialist aggression against Venezuela.

Solidarity with Cuba resonates in South Africa

Pretoria, 25 January 2026.- As part of the global day of action against the blockade, Cubans living in South Africa and friends in solidarity with Cuba gathered at the iconic Union Buildings, at the foot of the Nelson Mandela statue, to defend Cuba's sovereignty and independence. There was certainly no shortage of messages of Viva Cuba! and Down with imperialism! as well as the feeling of Cubanhood and defence of the homeland.

Cuba present at the Tshwane Tourism Fair

Pretoria, 23 January 2026.- The economic and commercial counsellor of the Cuban Embassy in South Africa, Yulian M Reyes Caballero, participated in the Tshwane Tourism Exhibition 2026, held at the International Convention Centre of the Council for Scientific Research of South Africa (CSIR).

Cuban Ambassador received by South African Minister of Health

Pretoria, 23 January 2026.- The Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Fakri Rodríguez Pinelo, held a positive meeting with the Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, and his team. During the conversation, both parties exchanged views on the development of bilateral cooperation in this sector. They also celebrated the success of the Nelson Mandela-Fidel Castro programme, which has graduated more than 3,000 South African doctors on the island.

Tribute to our 32 heroes in Cape Town

Cape Town, 21 January 2026.- Members of the Movement of Solidarity with Cuba, FOCUS, paid heartfelt tribute this afternoon to the 32 Cuban heroes who gave their lives defending Venezuelan sovereignty following the imperialist aggression against that sister nation. Through an emotional vigil outside St George's Cathedral, in the heart of Cape Town, FOCUS remembered the Cuban heroes, worthy representatives of the courage that characterises the people of the island.
