Support for the Cuban cause against the blockade was not lacking in this context.
Rustenberg, 6 January 2026.- As part of the activities marking the 114th anniversary of the African National Congress (ANC), its Secretary General, Fikile Mbalula, emphasised at a press conference that ‘the ANC has always opposed the United States' blockade against Cuba’. These statements come in the wake of the United States' military aggression in Venezuela and the kidnapping of its legitimate president, Nicolás Maduro.
Cape Town, 6 January 2026.- The Friendship Association with Cuba in South Africa, FOCUS, especially the Cape Town chapter, sent its condolences and message of solidarity to the government and people of Cuba for the loss of 32 Cuban nationals, who bravely gave their lives following the US military aggression in Venezuela and the kidnapping of its rightful president Nicolás Maduro.
Havana, January 5, 2026. - As a result of the criminal attack perpetrated by the United States government against the sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in the early hours of January 3, 2026, 32 Cubans lost their lives in combat while carrying out missions on behalf of the Revolutionary Armed Forces and the Ministry of the Interior, at the request of counterpart agencies in the South American country.
