Havana, September 8, 2025.- Cubans celebrate today the Virgin of Charity of El Cobre, Patroness of Cuba, a solemn appointment proclaimed by Pope Benedict XV in 1916, at the request of veterans of the War of Independence. The feast day of the image is commemorated on September 8, the birth and nativity of the Virgin Mary. She is also called Our Lady of Charity of El Cobre or simply Cachita.
Pretoria, 3 September 2025.- Lauren Luis Acosta, diplomatic attaché in charge of academic and cultural affairs at the Cuban Embassy in South Africa, held a fruitful meeting with Dr Mpho-Entle Modise, professor at the University of South Africa (UNISA) College of Education. They discussed opportunities for cooperation between UNISA and Cuban universities, as well as upcoming academic events in Cuba.
Pretoria, 28 August 2025. - Officials from the Cuban Embassy in South Africa participated today in the event commemorating the assault on the National Palace of Nicaragua, which took place on 22 August 1978 and constituted a milestone in the history of the Central American country and a key action by the Sandinista National Liberation Front in the struggle against the Somoza dictatorship.
Pretoria, August 22, 2025.- The Cuban Embassy in South Africa commemorated the 65th anniversary of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) with a hearfelt political and cultural event. Tribute was paid to the organization's historic leader, Vilma Espín, and Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz was also remembered, who always advocated and fought for the rights of Cuban women.
