Resounding victory of the Cuban people against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States government.

With 189 votes in favor, 2 against, and 1 abstention, the United Nations General Assembly has once again —for the thirty-second consecutive year— adopted the resolution on the “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.” This marks another victory for the Cuban people in their fight to end this illegal and inhumane policy.

The Cuban delegation takes part in the general debate on item 6 of the agenda, entitled ‘Universal Periodic Review’. 57th Ordinary Session of the Human Rights Council.

Mr. President,

Cuba reiterates its firm support for the Universal Periodic Review as an appropriate mechanism of the Council to address, in a constructive and respectful manner, the realization of human rights in any part of the world. The UPR has demonstrated its effectiveness and the willingness of States to implement accepted recommendations.

We advocate constructive cooperation rather than confrontation and political manipulation.

The Cuban delegation participates in the interactive dialogue with the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the international mechanism of independent experts to promote justice and racial equality in the application of the law. 57TH HRC

We welcome the High Commissioner and the experts and take note of their presentation.

We regret that the report contains information which has nothing to do with Cuban reality and which is incompatible with the overall legislative transformations achieved in the country, as well as with the results of the implementation of the national programme to combat racism and racial discrimination.
