Guardian Highlights Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution in Trinidad and Tobago

Port of Spain, January 1, 2025. An extensive article devoted to the 67th anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution was published in the Guardian newspaper in Trinidad and Tobago.

By comparing the socio-economic situation in Cuba during the 1950s with the development indicators achieved after January 1, 1959, the article highlights how several development indicators in Cuba were reversed following the rise to power of the Revolutionary Government under the leadership of Fidel Castro.

The exaggerated and aggressive military presence of the United States in the region constitutes a threat against Latin America and the Caribbean as a whole.

With the encouragement of the Secretary of State, the main and immediate target is the violent overthrow of the government of Venezuela through the use of U.S. military force, an extremely dangerous and irresponsible action with unpredictable and incalculable consequences.

Madam President:

I would like to express my deepest condolences and solidarity to the governments and people of Jamaica, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, who have suffered loss of life due to Hurricane Melissa. I also extend my condolences to Panama which has suffered some losses due to heavy rains, and our best wishes to the Bahamas and Bermuda.

I speak on behalf of a people who are currently facing a monstrous hurricane with scarce resources, relying almost entirely on willpower, unity, and solidarity.
