To be selected in the upcoming second stage of Cuban elections are 605 deputies and members of Cuba's Council of State, including its President and Vice President. As a genuine expression of democracy, the first stage of Cuba's general elections 2017-2018 concluded, this past December 17, with the constitution of 168 Municipal Assemblies of People's Power, composed of more than 12,000 delegates, elected directly and secretly by the population, who participated in a first and second round vote November 26 and December 3, respectively.

Cuba and the U.S. hold Exchange on the Combat against Illicit Drug Trafficking

On January 19, 2018, the fourth technical exchange on the combat against illicit drug trafficking was held in Washington D.C. between Cuban and U.S. authorities. 

The meeting falls within the context of the law enforcement dialogue established between both countries in November 2015.

The Cuban delegation expressed the willingness to continue advancing the operational cooperation with the US relevant authorities, in the prevention of and combat against this crime.

International Book Fair 2018, Havana, Cuba

Havana, will host the Morro - Cabaña Complex, the International Book Fair, which will celebrate its twenty - seventh anniversary. In an atmosphere of wisdom and culture, Cubans will enjoy the benefits that the event offers us, by allowing us an insight into the immense Cuban and foreign literary world.

THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF CYPRUS RECEIVES CUBAN AMBASSADOR

Cyprus, January 18th, 2018. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus, H.E. Mr. Ioannis Kasoulides received the Ambassador of Cuba, Omar Leyva Rafull, at the Foreign Ministry's headquarters.

During the cordial meeting, both parties noted the positive state of the bilateral relations, which are based on historical links, as well as exchanged on the continuity of actions and possible areas of cooperation in the near future.

Cuban Medical Brigade in Namibia celebrates its XXI Scientific Forum.

On January 16, the XXI Scientific Forum of the Cuban Medical Brigade was held in Windhoek, Namibia. The event was attended by the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services of Namibia, Juliet Kavetuna, the Cuban Ambassador, Giraldo Mazola, other members of the Cuban diplomatic representation and a group of Cuban health professionals, representing their colleagues from different regions of this African country.

The papers presented covered case studies, analysis of particular experiences with some patients, practical solutions to specific problems and data collection and analysis. All the investigations had a high quality and were very interesting for the topics addressed, as well as for their recommendations and conclusions. At the end of the event a mention was given, a second, and a first place.

At the closing ceremony, the Deputy Minister of MOHSS expressed her gratitude for having been invited to the Forum and for the papers presented. She also urged Cuban doctors to continue being creative and innovative to continue helping the health system of her country.

On the other hand, the ambassador of Cuba, Giraldo Mazola, praised the rigor of the presented works and the English language skills of the doctors. He also stressed the importance of the work they do in each of the health centers where they work.

The Ambassador urged the participants to continue to represent the Cuban people and their Revolution with dignity and to dedicate to both of them the Scientific Forum.
