Fifth CELAC Summit begins with a minute of silence in honor of Fidel

The President of the Dominican Republic Danilo Medina stated that Fidel was “one of the main champions of CELAC and a firm believer in the dream of a united Latin America”

The Dominican Republic, January 25, 2017.— Latin American and Caribbean Heads of State and Government held a minute of silence in honor of the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, on inaugurating the 5th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) this Tuesday, January 24.

Caribbean Labour Congress to approve a resolution for lifting the US blockade against Cuba.

Asokore Beckles, one of the leaders of the National Union of Public Workers Barbados (NUPW), elected Assistant Secretary General of the Caribbean Congress of Labour (CCL) during its 19th Triennial Delegates Meeting held in Antigua and Barbuda, delivered to Cuban Ambassador in Barbados a copy of the resolution adopted by the regional trade union body joining the international clamor for the "full, immediate and unconditional lifting of the blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba".

Vice President of India ratifies the support of his country in the legitimate demand of Cuba in favor of lifting the blockade.

From 23 to 24 of this month was held in the capital of India an International Conference entitled "Focus Latin America: the Need for an Effective Program," which was sponsored by the Indian Council of World Affairs (ICWA ) with the participation of a group of personalities, academics and former diplomats from Latin America and India to propose ways to approach the Indian subcontinent to Latin America and the Caribbean.

 

Cuban Deputy Chanchellor to address to the media on the US blockade

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, Abelardo Moreno, addressed today to representatives of the national and foreign press the key elements of the draft resolution 70/5 that Cuba will present on Wednesday October 26 at the United Nations General Assembly, entitled "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba ". At the meeting, the Cuban deputy minister stressed that the main objective of this document is implicit in the title itself: the need to end this outdated policy and violates international law.

Prime Minister of Jamaica demands the end of blockade against Cuba

KINGSTON, JAMAICA, October 7th 2016. Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Most Honourable Andrew J. Holness demanded the end of blockade the United States imposes against cuba, during his address to the 71st period of sessions of the United Nations General ASsembly, in New York. 

“Jamaica realizes that the continuation of the economic embargo against our sister Caribbean country, Cuba, is out of step with recent actions to re-establish diplomatic relations between Cuba and the United States.  We therefore call for its early lifting”, stated the Prime Minister.

US blockade effects against Cuban people to be denounced as part of state terrorism.

During a panel discussion broadcast on local television to publicize the program commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Crime of Barbados, several panelists emphasized that the blockade and terrorism are parts of the same policy against the Cuban Revolution and refused to stay in time, when many world leaders say the era of the Cold War is gone.

Delegations presided over respectively by Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, Director General of the US Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and Mari Carmen Aponte, Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs, and Jonathan Finer, Chief of Staff and Director of Policy Planning for the Secretary of State, met on September 30 in Washington on the occasion of the fourth meeting of the Cuba-US Bilateral Commission.
