The Cuban Community of Son Musicians in Paris Celebrates Cuban Son Day
Paris, 8 May 2026.- The Cuban community of son musicians in Paris celebrates Cuban Son Day this 8 May through an online initiative that brought together musicians, dancers, cultural promoters, academics and scholars of Cuban music, true lovers and defenders of Cuban son, who sent congratulatory messages to son musicians in Cuba and around the world on this significant date for Cuban national culture.
Bearers of the element joined their voices to highlight the importance of Cuban son as an essential expression of national identity, at a time when Cuban culture continues to serve as the “shield and sword of the nation” in the face of aggression campaigns, disinformation and the tightening of the economic and energy siege imposed against the Cuban people by the Government of the United States. The celebration takes on particular significance in 2026 following the inscription, on 10 December last year, of “the practice of Cuban son” on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity of UNESCO.
UNESCO’s Man and the Biosphere and Hydrological Programmes, along with Mexico’s UNAM scientific capacities, at the center of regional coordination on Exact and Natural Sciences chaired by Cuba
Paris, 27 April 2026. – The Permanent Delegation of Cuba to UNESCO, in its capacity as coordinator of the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) Working Group on Exact and Natural Sciences, chaired a coordination meeting on 27 April, held in Room VII of the Fontenoy building, with the participation of Latin American and Caribbean delegations and representatives of the Secretariat of the Organization.
The meeting, chaired by Ambassador María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, provided an opportunity to exchange with senior UNESCO officials and academic actors on strategic priorities, ongoing processes, and opportunities for regional cooperation in the scientific field.
Cuba calls at UNESCO for peace, solidarity, multilateralism, and denounces hostile U.S. policy
Paris, 23 April 2026.– The 224th session of the Executive Board of UNESCO, held from 8 to 23 April 2026 at the Organization’s Headquarters, provided a platform for Cuba to reaffirm its commitment to peace, multilateralism, and international cooperation, while denouncing the tightening of hostile policies by the United States against the Island.
In its statement, the Cuban delegation denounced that the country has endured for more than six decades the longest sustained economic aggression in contemporary history. This is compounded by Cuba’s arbitrary inclusion on the list of States allegedly sponsoring terrorism, as well as new coercive measures, including a recent executive order aimed at tightening the blockade on fuel supplies, with the objective of causing economic and human damage to undermine national sovereignty.
Cuba reiterated that it will never renounce its sovereign right to build its own development model, nor its commitment to contributing to a more just, supportive, and peaceful world.
Cuban Ambassador to UNESCO denounces tightening of the blockade and campaigns of disinformation and media manipulation against Cuba
Paris, 26 March 2026. An open and cordial atmosphere characterized the meeting between the new Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, Ms. Mariya Gabriel, and the Ambassador of Cuba to UNESCO, María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, during which both exchanged views on the importance of the Sector and agreed on the need to strengthen it in order to address today’s complex challenges.
Referring to Cuba’s commitment to the development of the Communication and Information Sector and highlighting important legislative advances at the national level, the representative of the Island denounced the impact of the tightening of the United States blockade against Cuba, particularly the energy siege imposed on the country through the executive order signed by the U.S. President on 29 January, whose effects impact all sectors of national life, severely harming the population.
Cuba leads global female participation in innovation, according to WIPO data
Paris, March 25, 2026. – Cuba ranks as the country with the highest proportion of women inventors or innovators globally, according to data from the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) corresponding to 2021.
According to the report, 53% of persons cited in international patent applications in Cuba are women, placing the country at the top of a total of 74 nations analyzed. It is followed by the Philippines and Portugal, completing the top positions of the ranking.
