Wellington, October 23rd, 2017. - In an emotional event hosted by the Embassy of Cuba in this city, diplomats from both countries commemorated the 10th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

The Ambassador of Cuba, Mario Alzugaray, restated the importance that Cuba attaches to its links with the Pacific region, sharing the challenges faced by the Small Island Development States. He also congratulated his counterpart for the successful hosting of the 48th Pacific Island Forum in Samoa early September 2017.

In the framework of the International Campaign to Support Cuba against the Blockade that takes place annually in October, the Cuban Chargé d'Affaires in Liberia, Yordenis Despaigne Vera, presented a draft resolution 71/5 entitled "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba".

President of the People's Supreme Court of Cuba completes successful visit to Namibia

The President of the Supreme People's Court of the Republic of Cuba, Rubén Remigio, completed a successful visit to Namibia. The Cuban representative thus fulfilled with an invitation made by his counterpart the President of the Supreme Court of this country, Peter Shivute, who received him at the Hosea Kutako International Airport.

In several meetings, both judges highlighted the excellent state of bilateral relations, including links in the judicial sphere. They also reiterated their intentions to continue working to strengthen ties.

As part of its broad program of activities, President Remigio participated in a regional preparatory event for the launch of a Global Judicial Integrity Network, under the auspices of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime. This meeting was held on 16 and 17 October in the coastal town of Swakopmund, 400 kilometers west of Windhoek, capital of Namibia.

Remigio also met with the judges of the Supreme Court of Namibia. In the friendly meeting, the Cuban High Judge explained the particularities of the Cuban justice system and was informed of how the judicial system of the African country works.

On his last day, President Remigio was received by the President of Namibia, Hage Geingob in the State House. In the relaxed and cordial encounter, the Cuban leader delivered a message from President Raul Castro to his Namibian counterpart. Likewise, he expressed the gratitude of the Cuban government and people for the Namibian support to the fight against the Blockade. For his part, President Geingob thanked Cuba for its historic support to Namibia, from the struggle for the country's independence until the present.

Wellington, October 21, 2017. -With the screening of the film "Cuba Libre", by director Jorge L. Sanchez, was launched in Wellington the 16th edition of the Latin America and Spain Film Festival (LASFF).

Cuban Ambassador, Mario Alzugaray, introduced the movie, which reflects the relationship between two children who lived the end of Spanish colonial rule in Cuba and the arrival of the US occupation army.
