Friends of Cuba in Wellington reiterate their condemnation of the blockade

Wellington, 17 November - Gathered to welcome the Ambassador of Cuba, the friendship society with the largest of the Antilles in Wellington, reiterated its condemnation of the blockade and reaffirmed the willingness of this group to maintain its contribution to the international fight for its total elimination. Pat Bolster and Gillian Magee, Chairman and Secretary of the organization respectively, confirmed that this fight will remain at the center of its solidarity work.

A week of academic exchanges between the University of Havana and the University of West Indies (UWI).

Port of Spain, 9 November, 2015.- From 2nd to 7th of November, hosted by the Office of the Principal of the University of the West Indies and the Institute of International Relations at the university, a group of Cuban professors and researchers visited Trinidad and Tobago academic exchanges related to Cuba. The delegation was headed by Antonio Romero, president of the Chair of "Norman Girvan" Caribbean Studies at the University of Havana.

Cuba and the Caribbean: Challenges on Regional Development.

The Seminar entitled “The Caribbean, Cuba and the challenges for Regional Development”, jointly coordinated with the Institute of International Relations (IIR of the University of the West Indies and the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba. Included in this seminar, were presentations delivered by several noted academics, including Dr. Antonio F. Romero Gomez, Chair of “Norman Girvan” Centre for Caribbean Studies, University of Havana (UH); Dr Marlen Sánchez, Senior Researcher at the Centre for International Economic Studies, UH; Milagros Elena Martínez Reinosa, Assistant Researcher and Associate Professor, UH; Dr Omar E. Pérez, Senior Lecturer at the Centre for the Study of the Cuban Economy, UH and Santiago Pérez Benítez, Researcher at the Research Centre for International Policy, UH.

The Association of Cuban Residents "Martyrs of Barbados", concluding his National Meeting 2015 in the city of City of Bridgetown, Barbados, on the 8th day of November, accompanied by by representatives of the different organizations members of the Movement of Solidarity  Barbados-Cuba and Barbadian professional graduates in Cuba, declare:

Barbadian companies attended to the International Trade Fair of Havana.

Five Barbadian companies and two entities resident in Barbados were represented at the 33rd edition of the International Trade Fair of Havana (FIHAV-2015), which this time was attended by 71 countries and 50 chambers of commerce and institutions promoting trade and investment in Latin America and the Caribbean, Europe, Canada, Asia, Africa, and for the first time, the United States of America.

Port of Spain, October 30. Secretary General Alfonso Múnera received a courtesy visit from the Ambassador Isabel Allende, Rector of the Raul Roa Garcia Higher Institute of International Relations, accompanied by the Ambassador of Cuba in Trinidad and Tobago, Guillermo Vázquez Moreno.

Official of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) develops intensive work program in Trinidad and Tobago.

Port of Spain, 29 October.- The official of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP) Yamil Martinez Marrero, in charge of the Eastern Caribbean countries in this institution, culminated today an intense and fruitful three days working visit to Trinidad and Tobago, which among its main goals were to update the movement of solidarity with Cuba, political parties and labor movements with a comprehensive socio-economic situation on Cuba in its current political context and exchange on possible initiatives in support of Cuba for the next year.

 

Prime Minister of Barbados demands at the UN the total lifting of the blockade against Cuba.

Ratifying the historical position of Barbados in support of the Cuban resolution "Necessity of ending the economic, commercial and financial embargo imposed by the United States to Cuba" presented for 25 consecutive years before the General Assembly of the United Nations, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart included in his speech to the general debate of the world organization the requirement that such unilateral sanction to be lifted completely. Similar position has been expressed in the past by the Barbadian Foreign Minister Maxine McClean in different international forums.

Barbadians activists in the battle for the liberation of the Cuban Five are recognized.

A large group of Barbadians activists who excelled in the persistent struggle carried out for 16 years until the release of the antiterrorist fighters, known internationally as the case of the Cuban Five, received from the Ambassador of Cuba a symbolic Certificate of Recognition signed by the Cuban Five.
