CELAC representatives call for regional unity in Argentina
Buenos Aires, 18 August 2022. Representatives of some thirty member countries of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on Thursday called in Argentina to preserve unity to face current challenges.
During the 35th Meeting of CELAC National Coordinators, held at the San Martin Palace in this capital, participants demanded respect for diversity and the search for consensus to solve the problems affecting the region.
Cuba undertakes recovery actions after Matanzas fire
Matanzas, 17 August 2022. The Matanzas Electric Company started on Wednesday the process of testing the affected circuit breaker fields in the 110 kilovolt (KV) Marti substation, as part of the recovery after the biggest fire in Cuba.
This enclave provides services to five 33 KV lines that feed the industrial zone, where the accident took place, the neighborhood of Versalles and downtown Matanzas, hence the importance of rescuing it.
Remains of 14 people missing at Matanzas fire cannot be identified
Havana, 18 August 2022. The remains of the 14 people missing in the fire at the Matanzas Supertanker Base cannot be identified, an official source reported.
During a press briefing on television, Dr. Jorge Gonzalez, head of the team of experts involved in the search works, said that given the high temperatures at the site of the disaster, it was not possible to have DNA, teeth and fingerprints, elements that are used to identify the bodies.
First communist party in Cuba turns 97
Havana, 16 August 2022. Cuba on Tuesday is commemorating the 97th anniversary of the founding of its first Communist Party, emerged to defend the interests of the working class and the popular sectors.
The organization was founded on August 16, 1925, and it is considered the successor of the Cuban Revolutionary Party (PRC), founded by José Martí, and precedes the current Communist Party of Cuba.
