US Military Deployment in the Caribbean Sea Threatens the Region Under Absurd Pretexts

The Cuban Government strongly rejects the current deployment of United States military forces in the Caribbean Sea. This dangerous action represents a serious threat and an aggressive show of force against the sovereignty and self-determination of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean. Furthermore, it ignores the commitment of the 33 Member States of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States when they proclaimed the region as a Zone of Peace.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba informs that Salvadoran national Otto René Rodríguez Llerena, who had been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in the terrorist bombing of a hotel in Cuba in 1997, has served his sentence and, in accordance to the national legislation, has been released.

In Geneva, Cuban Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment Meets with Norwegian Minister of Climate and Environment

Oslo, August 14, 2025. In the framework of his participation in the negotiations for a legally binding international instrument on plastic pollution, taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, the Cuban Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment Rudy Montero Mata had the opportunity to exchange with Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, Norway´s Minister of Climate and Environment.

Both agreed on the importance of moving toward a treaty that effectively addresses the phenomenon of plastic pollution.
