The document, adopted at the 39th Ordinary Session that concluded this Sunday, includes, for the third time, the AU's explicit call to remove the Caribbean nation from the unilateral and unjustified list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, underscoring the arbitrary nature of this designation.

Friends of Cuba in Laos mourned the passing of Dr. Julio Lopez

Vientiane, February 14, 2026. The president of the Laos-Cuba Friendship Association, Chaleun Yiapaoheu, lamented the death of Dr. Julio López, head of the first Cuban medical brigade that served in this Southeast Asian nation in 1973.

In a message of condolence addressed to the head of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, Yiapaoheu described the Cuban doctor as a “very dear friend and comrade of our people.”

Various figures from the arts and culture continue to join the call directed at the United States government to end its aggressive policy towards Cuba.

 Recognized personalities from film, music, and television have signed an open letter demanding that Washington cease the measures that directly affect the Cuban population. Among the new signatories are actress and activist Jane Fonda, actor Ed Harris, actress and model Indya Moore, Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez, British musician Roger Waters, and Canadian actress Tatiana Maslany.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, through his spokesperson, issued a statement today emphasizing the negative humanitarian impact of the financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba for decades, including recent measures that restrict the shipment of fuel to the island. He denounced that such unilateral measures severely affect the human rights of the Cuban people.

Cuban Ambassador Attends Meeting with the Minister of Justice and Public Order of the Republic of Cyprus

In particular, Pino Martínez reiterated his willingness to coordinate specific bilateral meetings with the team that assists him in order to create a more formal exchange of opinions and knowledge related to jurisprudence between the two nations.
