Tribute to the victims of the Great Irish Famine

September 30th, 2017. Ambassador Hermes Herrera deposited an offering on behalf of Cuba as a tribute to the victims of the Great Irish Famine (An Ghorta Mhóir in Irish), which occurred between 1845 and 1851 where thousands of people died and thousands more had to emigrate.

This annual commemoration takes place in different localities and this year corresponded to the county of Tipperary, province of Munster.

Press Release: Special Committee for Decolonization committed with ending colonization in the XXI century.

New York, October 3rd, 2017. Yesterday, inside the 72 Session of the UN General Assembly, took place one sesión of the Special Committee on the Situation with regard to the Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples, which is vice-chair by Cuba. Ambassador Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo, Cuban Permanent Representative to the organization, addressed to the Special Committee State-members, belonged to the Fourth Committee, and made reference to the topics and activities regarding the decolonization program.

Press Release: Cuba regrets that 72 years after the United Nations was created, there are still 17 colonial territories.

New York, October 2nd, 2017. Cuba regretted that 72 years after the United Nations was founded and  56 years after the adoption of the historic Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples adopted by the General Assembly in its resolution 1514 (XV), there are still 17 territories that live the tragedy of colonialism, called "non-autonomous territories".

Today we have learned of a State Department communiqué that reports the decision of the U.S. government to reduce personnel at its embassy in Havana. As we reported this past September 26, in a meeting held that day with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, on the initiative of the Cuban side, our minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla:

• Advised him not make hasty decisions that were not based on evidence or conclusive results of investigations;

• Called on him to avoid politicizing an issue of this nature; and

The State Department announced Friday that it will withdraw more than half of the staff from the US embassy in Cuba after the "incidents" reported by diplomats.Josefina Vidal Ferreiro, director general for the United States of Minrex, emphasized to the press that the Government of Cuba has no responsibility in the alleged facts and it fulfills seriously and rigorously its obligations with the Convention of Vienna on Diplomatic Relations. We consider that the decision announced by the State Department is hasty and will affect bilateral relations.

In Kuwait was celebrated the 57th anniversary of CDR

Kuwait, September 28, 2017. The 57th anniversary of the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution (CDR) was held this Thursday in Kuwait with a small event organized by in the country's Cuban Medical Brigade and the diplomatic mission.

The participants emphasized that the CDRs, as an expression of the people's unity, have given their contribution in the most diverse tasks, such as cederista vigilance, blood donations, the fight against crime, illegalities and the social indiscipline.
