National Defense Council Informational Report

As is known, September 7-10, the country was impacted by the powerful Hurricane Irma, which caused severe coastal flooding, strong winds, and heavy rainfall, principally in the north of the island from Camagüey to Artemisa.

The provinces most affected were Camagüey, Ciego de Ávila, Sancti Spíritus and Villa Clara. Others such as Guantánamo, Holguín, Las Tunas, Cienfuegos, Matanzas, Mayabeque, and La Habana also suffered damage.

Today we have learned of a State Department communiqué that reports the decision of the U.S. government to reduce personnel at its embassy in Havana.

As we reported this past September 26, in a meeting held that day with Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, on the initiative of the Cuban side, our minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla:

• Advised him not make hasty decisions that were not based on evidence or conclusive results of investigations;

• Called on him to avoid politicizing an issue of this nature; and

The State Department reports in a statement, the decision of the US Government to reduce the staff of its Embassy in Havana. Cuba considers that this is a hasty decision that will affect bilateral relations.

As we informed on the past Tuesday, September 26, in a meeting held that day, at the proposal of the Cuban side, with Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, our Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla:

- Advised him not to take any hasty decisions, which are not based on evidences and conclusive investigation results;

Ambassador of Cuba in Kenya visited University of Nairobi.

Nairobi, 26 September. Professor Peter M.F. Mbithi, the highest authority of the University of Nairobi, received the Cuban ambassador in Kenya, Ernesto Gomez Díaz, at the headquarters of that house of high studies, who paid him a courtesy call today.

During the fraternal meeting, both sides addressed the potential for developing bilateral cooperation in the areas of teaching and scientific research, especially in the fight against malaria and human resource formation, among many other fields.
