In a fruitful meeting with Cuban scientist Pilar Oropesa Verdecia, from the Isotope Centre (CENTIS), we learned about her current scientific visit to the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in London until 14 June, as part of a technical assistance project sponsored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), a scientific relationship that dates back to the early 1990s, particularly in the training of specialists in radiopharmacy and radiation metrology.
Buena Vista Social Club wins five Tony Awards
The history and power of Cuban music have once again conquered the world. Once again, the Buena Vista Social Club is the inspiration for a story about one of the legendary groups of Cuban musicians who cultivated Son Cubano in the 1930s-1950s, some of whom reunited in 1996. Since then, their recordings and international performances have transcended with a Grammy Award and an Oscar nomination for the film Buena Vista Social Club.
Acosta Danza awarded Best Medium Format Company at UK National Dance Awards
Cuban culture once again occupies a place of honor on the international stage, thanks to the recent award given to Acosta Danza as Best Medium Format Company at the prestigious UK National Dance Awards 2024, organized by the UK Dance Critics' Circle Dance Section.
This important recognition confirms the excellence and international projection of the company, founded and directed by the outstanding principal dancer Carlos Acosta, who has been able to combine classical technique with the expressive power of Cuban and contemporary roots in each production.
UCVL delegation strengthens academic links with the University of Glasgow
The rector of the Central University "Marta Abreu" of Las Villas (UCLV), Dr. Luis Antonio Barranco Olivera, heads the delegation visiting the University of Glasgow as part of the strengthening of academic and scientific links between the two institutions.
The delegation is made up of Dr Yanelis Delgado Triana, Director of International Relations; Dr Anabel Díaz Hurtado, Vice-Chancellor; and Dr Ginley Durán Castellón, Director of University Assets.
Cuba Reaffirms Its Commitment to the Sustainable Development of the Coffee Sector
London, 4 June. In an official ceremony held at the headquarters of the International Coffee Organization (ICO), the Cuban Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Ismara Vargas Walter, formally deposited the instrument of ratification for the 2022 International Coffee Agreement.
This act reaffirms Cuba’s commitment to the sustainable and equitable development of the global coffee sector.
