Friendship exchange in Hai Duong celebrates Cuba’s Moncada Barracks attack

A friendship exchange was held in Hai Duong city in the northern province of the same name to celebrate the 71th anniversary of the Attack on Moncada Barracks (July 26, 1953 - 2024). The event was organised by the the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) and the Hai Duong provincial People's Committee.

At the event, participants reviewed the attack and its historical significance. The attack by young Cuban patriots led by Fidel Castro, the great leader of Cuba, opened up a new stage of development in the Cuban revolution. It brought the just struggle of the Cuban people to victory on January 1, 1959, marking a milestone in the country’s history.

Late Party chief respected by international community: Cuban diplomat

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong has won the respect and admiration of people worldwide, said Joy Puentes Saldise, Charge d'affaires a.i of the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam. The late Party chief has left over a valuable ideological and theoretical system on the Vietnamese revolution in the new era, contributing to strengthening national solidarity, enhancing the country’s progress, creating motivation for the Vietnamese people, the diplomat said in an interview granted to the Vietnam News Agency (VNA).

Puentes Saldise said the Party chief’s passing is a huge loss to not only socialist countries but also the world, calling him “a great leader, a great man, and a great example”.

VNA further intensifies cooperation with Cuban partners

A delegation of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) led by Deputy General Director Nguyen Tuan Hung visited Cuba from July 28 to August 3 to further enhance the traditional friendship and cooperation with large press agencies of the Caribbean nation. Visiting the headquarters and many establishments of Prensa Latina (Latin American News Agency) in Havana, Hung highlighted the two news agencies’ practical cooperation results over the past more than 60 years of their countries’ close-knit fraternity.

They are implementing the cooperation agreement for 2023 - 2028 through various activities, including sharing daily news in different languages such as English, French, and Spanish and exchanging language editors.

Cuban leader congratulates Party General Secretary To Lam

First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez has congratulated President To Lam on his election as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee.

The Cuban leader wrote on his personal web page on August 3 that he offers sincere and warmest congratulations to Comrade To Lam, who is elected General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. “We affirm our firm will in continuing to deepen the close relationship between the two Parties and our people,” he said.

The second group of young people from Saint Kitts and Nevis receives scholarships from Cuba this year.

On Thursday afternoon the ceremony of awarding undergraduate scholarships for five local young people, in the careers of Architecture, Medicine and Health Technology, was held at the headquarters of the Embassy of Cuba,In addition to the Cuban diplomatic staff, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Lisa Pistana, the president of the Association of Graduates in Cuba, Hollis Prentice, Dr Erick Brown, an Engineer who graduated in Cuba, and relatives of the students were present at the event.

President To Lam on June 24 affirmed that Vietnam always stands side by side with Cuba in all circumstances while he received Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Orlando Nicolas Hernandez Guillen in Hanoi. During the reception, Lam said that the Party, State and Government of Vietnam value the special traditional relationship with Cuba as both a comrade and a brother.

Lam expressed his delight to see that the two countries’ growing relations, with strong and comprehensive developments in the complex world situation.

Vietnamese call for Cuba’s exclusion from US terrorist list

The definitive and permanent exclusion of Cuba from the unilateral list elaborated by the U.S. government and which designates States allegedly sponsoring terrorism was demanded today by solidarity organizations.

The United States should consider putting an end to and permanently eliminating Cuba from that list, thus stopping the imposition of a series of irrational and unfounded economic and financial blockade measures that seriously affect the life of the brotherly Cuban people, a statement issued by the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association emphasizes.

The statement also points out that through information from the press and diplomatic agencies, last May 15, it was announced, that the U.S. government decided to remove Cuba from the list of countries that did not cooperate with U.S. anti-terrorist efforts in 2023.
