Cuban delegation addresses the Second Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT)
Mr. Chairman,
We align ourselves to the intervention delivered by Indonesia, on behalf of the NAM Member States Parties to the NPT.
Cuba reaffirms that the total elimination of nuclear weapons is the only absolute guarantee against the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons. We are convinced that as long as nuclear weapons exist, the risk of their proliferation and possible use will also persist.
Cuba calls for the rapid adoption of a universal legal instrument on negative security assurances.
Geneva, Switzerland - 25 July 2024. Cuba continues to participate actively in the Second Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which is being held in Geneva until 2 August 2024.
The Cuban delegation, together with the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) to the NPT, reaffirmed the need for a universal, unconditional and legally binding agreement that provides effective security assurances against the use or threat of use of nuclear weapons for all non-nuclear-weapon States.
Cuba defends nuclear disarmament at the Second Preparatory Committee for the 2026 NPT Review Conference

The Cuban delegation reaffirmed its firm commitment to nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation during its intervention, under the first pillar, at the II Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), which is being held in Geneva from 22 July to 2 August 2024.

Geneva, Switzerland - 22 July 2024. Cuba reaffirmed its commitment to the prohibition and total elimination of nuclear weapons at the opening today in Geneva of the Second Preparatory Committee for the 2026 Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).
The delegation to this event, which is due to last until 2 August, is headed by the Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office at Geneva, Juan Antonio Quintanilla Román.
