Dr. Katherine Muller-Marin, director of the UNESCO Regional Office for Culture in Latin America and the Caribbean, paid a courtesy call on the Cuban Ambassador to Jamaica, H.E Mrs. Ines Fors Fernández.

During the meeting, held in an atmosphere of cordiality and respect, Dr. Muller-Marin updated the Cuban diplomat on the work carried out by the said Office, including details on some programs, projects and initiatives they promote in the field of culture.

The history of Cuba’s solidarity and cooperation in the educational field became manifest this time with the arrival in Jamaica of a new group of Cuban teachers who will teach subjects related to the exact and natural sciences, and Spanish language, at schools throughout this Caribbean nation.

In our country, when the anniversary of the birth of a national hero arrives, we usually commemorate it in a very solemn ceremony. However, when it comes to Fidel, we speak about “celebrating his birthday”. Well, when he was physically with us, every August 13th was a date of genuine joy for most Cubans and our friends around the world. And even though neither him nor the Cuban government ever encouraged the celebration of the date, we always managed to have some kind of party that day.
