Statement by H. E. Mr. Pedro Luis Pedroso Cuesta, Ambasssador, Permanent Representative of Cuba to the Office of the United Nations in Geneva and other international organizations based in Switzwerland at the Plenary meeting of the Conference on Disarmament. August 29, 2017, Geneva

Mr. President:

First of all, I would like to wish you success as President of the Conference on Disarmament. In addition, I would like to support the statements made by the Group of 21 countries during the current year.

Ulaanbaatar. August 29, 2017. Cubans residents in Ulaanbaatar, young Mongolian graduates in Cuba and other friends of solidarity held the 91st anniversary of the birth of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, at the Cuban Embassy. Cuban Ambassador Raúl Delgado Concepcion highlighted in his words the extraordinary work and contribution of the Commander in Chief, for Cuba and for the world as one of the most important political figures in history.

Cuban Minister of Education Dr. Ena Elsa Velázquez Cobiella, arrived in Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe, invited by her Zimbabwean counterpart Dr. Lazarus Dokora, to participate in the 3rd International Education Conference in this city, which will take place between the 30 August and September 1, 2017

New York, 28 August 2017. During her intervention in the general debate on the Annual Report of the United Nations Security Council, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba to the United Nations, Ambassador Ana Silvia Rodríguez Abascal, reiterated Cuba's call for an urgent reform of the Council in order to achieve a truly transparent, representative, democratic and efficient organ.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for European and American Affairs, Majid Takht Ravanchi, hosted a lunch in honor of Cuban Ambassador Vladimir Gonzalez Quesada, as part of his farewell.

By the Iranian side, the Director of the Second Department for the Americas and other officials at the Persian Foreign Ministry were also participated in the banquet. For his part, the Cuban diplomat was accompanied by the Ambassador of Nicaragua and dean of the Latin American Group, as well as the Ambassador of Ecuador and the Chargé d'Affaires of Argentina.
