Cuba and the United States strengthen cooperation in the field of search and rescue

Authorities of the Aeronautical and Maritime Search and Rescue System of the Republic of Cuba (SAR-Cuba) participated in the observance of a tabletop exercise on search and rescue in Key West, Florida, in response to an invitation extended by the U.S. Coast Guard Service. The initiative, which took place on March 6, 2018, falls within the context of the bilateral governmental cooperation after the signing of an Agreement on this field on January 18, 2017.

Monrovia, March 7, 2018-, Close to noon on Wednesday, Senator Albert Tugbeh Chie, was visited by the Charge d'Affaires of Cuba, Yordenis Despaigne Vera. During the courtesy visit, which took place in the office of the head of the upper chamber of the Liberian parliament, the Second Secretary Carmen Maury Toledo also participated.

Monrovia, March 7, 2018-, In the morning of Wednesday, Mr. Bhofal Chambers, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Liberia, received in his office the Chargé d'Affaires of Cuba in Liberia, Yordenis Despaigne Vera. The latter made a visit to the parliamentarian, accompanied by the Second Secretary, Carmen Maury Toledo.

The vice president of Namibia, Nangolo Mbumba, received the Cuban ambassador in this country, Giraldo Mazola. The Cuban diplomat conveyed a congratulatory message from the Government and the Party of the Caribbean island to the Namibian leader for his recent posting.

The Namibian politician was Secretary General of SWAPO until the last congress of the political organization, held last December. President Geingob appointed Mbumba at the beginning of February of this year as Vice President of the Nation, when Nickey Iyambo resigned due to health problems.

In the pleasant meeting were exchanged about the excellent state of bilateral relations and the possibilities to expand them, especially in the economic and commercial spheres. Likewise, some topics of international news were analyzed.

The Cuban Ambassador and the Namibian Vice President agreed on the positive outcome of the recent visit of the Namibian Prime Minister, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, to Cuba.

Vice President Mbumba reiterated the willingness of his country and government to continue supporting Cuba in the struggle for the lifting of the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade of the United States and his commitment to continue working to strengthen bilateral ties.

The decision by the United States Government, which unilaterally maintains the drawdown of its staff at the U.S. Embassy in Cuba indefinitely, is politically motivated and has no relation whatsoever to the safety and security of its officials in Havana, said the General Director for U.S. Affairs of the Cuban Foreign Ministry, Carlos Fernández de Cossío in his statement to the press.

Monrovia, March 6, 2018-, In the morning hours of this Tuesday, Yordenis Despaigne Vera, Chargé d'Affaires of the Cuban Embassy in Liberia, made a courtesy visit to H.E. Gbehzohngar Milton Findley, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia. The meeting took place at the headquarters of the Liberian chancellery. On the Cuban side, the Second Secretary Carmen Maury Toledo also participated. Representing the Liberian counterpart were the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. B. Elias Shoniyin, the assistant minister for public affairs, Mr. Sylvester Pewe among other officials.

Monrovia, March 6, 2018-, On Tuesday morning, the Deputy Prime Minister of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, Mr. B. Elias Shoniyin exchanged with the Cuban Chargé d'Affaires, Yordenis Despaigne Vera. The appointment preceded a courtesy visit from the latter to the new Liberian chancellor, S.E Mr. Gbehzohngar Milton Findley. During the meeting, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Liberia, several officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of that country and the Second Secretary of the Cuban diplomatic mission Carmen Maury Toledo were present.
