Dublin, November 17, 2018. Early in the morning session, Aleida Guevara March intervened in the plenary of the International Conference against the Military Bases of the United States and NATO. She said that the borders of the islands should be delimited only by the sea, however some islands, like Cuba, have other borders, in this case, determined by the existence of the US military base at Guantanamo, maintained against the will of our people.

Dublin, November 16, 2018. With the assistance of representatives of several dozens of countries and leaders of pacifist movements, the First International Conference against the military bases of the United States and NATO was inaugurated in Dublin.

The speakers of this inaugural session coincided in highlighting the hundreds of billions of dollars that are spent annually on weapons, being diverted from key sectors such as education, health and food. The gap between rich and poor deepens.

The Cuban Ambassador in Ireland, Hugo René Ramos Milanés and Silvio Platero, President of the Cuban Movement for Peace, also participated in the meeting.

Deputy Thomas Pringle, coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba, gave the welcome at the headquarters of the Irish parliament to Dr. Aleida Guevara March, who is visiting Ireland. Also present was Deputy Maureen O'Sulivan, vice president of the Foreign Relations Committee of the parliament, as well as Silvio Platero, President of Cuban Movement for Peace and activists of the Cuba Support Group, a recognized organization in solidarity with the Cuban Revolution.

The process of adopting a new Constitution in Cuba and its impact on the functioning of State bodies such as Parliament, its executive bodies at national and local levels was at the center of the sustained exchange.
