The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba informs that Salvadoran national Otto René Rodríguez Llerena, who had been sentenced to 30 years in prison for his involvement in the terrorist bombing of a hotel in Cuba in 1997, has served his sentence and, in accordance to the national legislation, has been released.
Victoria, August 14, 2025. The Cuban Embassy and the Seychelles-Cuba Friendship Association (SECUFA) opened the program commemorating Fidel's centenary on August 13 with the opening of the “Fidel” photo exhibition at the National Library of Seychelles.
The exhibition brings together a selection of 16 photographs of Fidel taken through the lens of his son and photographer Alex Castro, most of them captured in the privacy of his home after his retirement from official duties, at a time when he devoted himself to researching and writing on various topics.

In the framework of his participation in the negotiations for a legally binding international instrument on plastic pollution, taking place in Geneva, Switzerland, the Cuban Deputy Minister of Science, Technology, and Environment Rudy Montero Mata had the opportunity to exchange with Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, Norway´s Minister of Climate and Environment.
Both agreed on the importance of moving toward a treaty that effectively addresses the phenomenon of plastic pollution.
A national donation campaign was launched in Hanoi on August 13 to rally support for the Cuban people on the occasion of the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Year and the 65th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

The festival, organized by the embassies of 13 Latin American countries, including Cuba, presents a selection of films that reflect the vibrant histories and cultures of the region.
This morning, August 14th, Dr. Shanice Daniella Nigthengale, a young Barbadian medical graduate who graduated in Cuba, signed the "Code of Ethics for Foreign Students" as part of the scholarship process granted to her to continue her studies in our country. In this case, she will pursue postgraduate studies specializing in Child Psychiatry.
On August 14, Cuban Ambassador Yanet Stable Cárdenas and Mr. Mohamed Zrug, Ambassador of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) to the Caribbean, exchanged greetings at the Cuban Embassy in Barbados.
Both diplomats recalled the historic relations of friendship and brotherhood that the two countries have maintained for decades, characterized by solidarity and mutual support, especially in health and education.
